Books to read here - three suggestions

The fireplace room has a shelf of maybe 80 books, many left by past guests in four languages. Three to read here: **Memorial do Convento** by José Saramago - 18th-century Portugal novel; **O Vale do Cávado** by Aquilino Ribeiro - pre-tourism rural north; **Estrada Provincial** by Mário Cláudio - contemporary, slow road prose. If you bring a book you won't reread, leave it with us. The shelves grow that way.
